Mia Khalifa, a former adult film star, made inflammatory comments about U.S. military service members and veterans, expressing a desire for them to suffer from PTSD. Khalifa’s remarks were shared in a video posted on social media, where she began by offering a “good morning” to everyone except those serving in the U.S. military.

Khalifa, who immigrated to the United States from Lebanon with her family in 2001, grew up in Maryland. Her upbringing benefited from the safety and stability provided by the U.S. military. Despite this, her comments degrading members of the U.S. Armed Forces aren’t new.

Khalifa’s career in the adult film industry was brief, spanning roughly three months starting in Oct. 2014. During this time, she quickly became one of the most popular figures in adult entertainment.

Her controversial statements come after other recent actions that have kept her in the headlines. Last year, Playboy cut ties with Khalifa following antisemitic comments in support of the Hamas-led Oct. 7th, 2023, attacks against Israel. Khalifa’s tweets from that time included calling Hamas militants “freedom fighters” and telling them to do a better job filming their attacks. Despite the backlash, she was recently given a platform by The New York Times, which presented her as an “activist.”

As the firestorm over her comments grows, many online are pointing out the contradiction between her upbringing in the United States and her criticisms of the military that protects her and her family.
