Coalfield Progress: Dominion Receives Warm Welcome in Southwest Virginia

Stuart Burrill over at the Coalfield Progress writes a story that probably shocks most of the folks on the radical left, namely that Dominion Energy isn’t the bogeyman the progressive left wants the energy firm to be — not in jobs-hungry Southwest Virginia:

Dan Genest with Dominion was very pleased with the turnout, estimating that more than 100 people attended the community meeting. People began showing up at 6:15 p.m. for a meeting that was planned to start at 7 p.m. in Mountain Empire Community College’s Goodloe Center.

Sign-in sheets showed addresses from Ewing to Clintwood to Kentucky, but most of those in attendance were from Appalachia and Big Stone Gap. Talking about the crowd, Genest said, “We are very encouraged by their enthusiasm and hospitality.”

If any local people are opposed to the project, they were not vocal about it at this meeting. Tables were set up around the room explaining various elements of how pumped storage works; the potential sites, including the former Bullitt mine and a Tazewell County location; and why Dominion would be a good member of the community.
