In effort to help communities in need, Dominion Energy is embarking on its fourth consecutive year of inviting non-profit organizations to apply for grants through its charitable foundation. All non-profits that help families meet needs for food, housing, medicine, medical services, and others initiatives are encouraged to apply for contributions of up to $25,000.
Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, said that “Whether it’s food for homebound seniors, shelter for homeless families or free dental check-ups, the need for basic necessities is great in many communities.” The foundation is currently pledging $1 million to aid in meeting critical needs in communities within Dominion Energy’s footprint.
For this year’s grants, according to a company news release, eligible organizations will be targeted in areas of Connecticut, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
The foundation says that priority will be given to non-profit organizations that “demonstrate the ability to serve communities through partnerships, and have a proven track record of meeting basic human needs and preventing future needs.”
Last year’s “Critical Community Needs” grants helped provide a myriad of essential services to 160 non-profit groups. In one example, ForKids Inc., a Norfolk, Virginia-based non-profit group tasked with “breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty for families and children,” according to its website, was awarded $25,000 for its after-school program that helps families struggling with homelessness.
“These grants are designed to support organizations that provide greater stability and a better life for people in need,” Applewhite said.
Online applications for the grants will be accepted until October 5, 2018, with notification to awarded candidates occurring on November 16, and public announcements and check presentations happening December through January. Potential applicants can apply on the Dominion Energy site.
Throughout 2018, the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation, as well as EnergyShare, and other programs, Dominion Energy plans to contribute more than $30 million to community causes throughout its footprint and beyond.
