“We’re going to talk about 2020 in a minute — do you want to run again?” an interviewer asked Hillary Clinton at a recent public appearance.
In front of a sympathetic crowd, the answer was “No,” as Clinton responded. Though, she did add, “Well, I’d like to be president.”
Presumably, everyone is sure of that.
As the bullpen begins to fill with Democratic presidential hopefuls, Clinton, who still doesn’t believe she actually lost to President Donald Trump in 2016, is still rumored to be one who runs to take back the White House from Republicans. However, it seems that while others in the party revere her as the best perennial candidate, it is time for her to get out of the way.
Now, even longtime confidante, friend, and fundraiser for Clinton, former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D), has come out saying that the former secretary of state should probably call it quits.
McAuliffe was asked last week – in addition to being prodded if he is throwing his hat in the ring for 2020 – if he would support anyone in particular to challenge Trump in two years. Responding to talk that Clinton will be on the primary train for a third consecutive time, he said that Clinton “is never going to be on the ballot again.”
“It’s hard for Hillary,” McAuliffe said as reported by Grabien News. “She got three million more votes than Donald Trump did in the last presidential election. But I feel confident in saying I think Hillary is never going to be on the ballot again, I think she is done running for elected office. She’s going to be out helping candidates. But I feel very confident in saying she’s not going to run for president.”
Considering the historical narrative that whomever goes after the Clintons ends up losing in the end, it is quite precarious the outcome of the former governor’s remarks.
