Kaine Can’t Keep Having It Both Ways

To appropriately honor Tim Kaine’s 60th birthday, Virginians should reflect upon his many years as an elected official. Senator Kaine has represented (and I use that term very loosely) the Commonwealth of Virginia in Washington for one term too many. In the last several years he has flip-flopped on several key issues and left Virginians wondering if they can trust whom they sent to DC. Tim Kaine has held a public office every day for the last twenty-four years, Virginia needs a fresh face.

Kaine voted to shut down the government and leave our military and our most vulnerable children out in the cold because he would rather people here in the United States unlawfully were made comfortable. What is worse is that he previously pledged to the American people that he would not support a government shutdown. Not only was that an egregious lie, he put illegal immigrants higher on his list of priorities than he did law-abiding Virginians.

The Senator also switched his position on offshore drilling when it became convenient for him to collect massive donations from multiple environmental groups. Most notable of those groups is the League of Conservation Voters, who made the majority of their contributions around the same time Kaine flipped on offshore drilling.  He would rather deprive needy Virginians of jobs than draw ire from powerful Democrats in Washington. 840,000 U.S. jobs and $200 billion in revenue are on the line, and despite those facts, Tim Kaine remains beholden to his donors. He even called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act “highway robbery,” despite thousands of stories to refute that claim.

The very areas that would benefit most from coastal drilling are now benefiting tremendously from tax reform. Tim Kaine could not be bothered to support either.

Kaine started his political career proudly supporting the right to life, yet less than a month ago, he voted against the pain-capable abortion ban. An interesting decision for a man that, while Governor, signed a law to allow the sale of “Choose Life” Virginia license plates. The Democrats have shown time and time again that there is no place in their party for pro-life sentiment. Tim Kaine took his donations from Planned Parenthood and sold out the American people.

Perhaps the biggest lie Tim Kaine has ever forced upon Virginia citizens is that he has the best interests of the Commonwealth in mind. He lied when he said he would represent us. He lied when he said he would protect our rights. He lied when he showed us that his vote could easily be bought by special interest groups. He lied when he abandoned Virginia (and his principles) to run with Hillary Clinton.

Kaine’s history of lying and hanging Virginians out to dry can only mean one thing; it’s time to retire Tim Kaine.
