Kiggans Endorses Anderson In VA-07 Primary

The Republican primary for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District may have a solid front-runner emerging.

Republican Derrick Anderson announced Friday an endorsement from incumbent VA-02 congresswoman Jenn Kiggans in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District race.

Anderson is a Special Forces Green Beret, and Kiggans is former Navy helicopter pilot, and nurse practitioner.

Per a media release from Anderson’s campaign:

Congresswoman Kiggans said: “I am honored to endorse Derrick Anderson who is running to represent Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Derrick’s commonsense conservative approach is exactly what Washington needs. As a fellow veteran, I know Derrick will work tirelessly to advocate for a strong military and the mission of strengthening our great nation!”

Sharing the endorsement, Anderson said:

“I appreciate the support from Congresswoman Kiggans, a fellow Virginia veteran. Congresswoman Kiggans has proven that sending a fighter to Congress pays off for our state, and I look forward to working closely with her to help Virginia grow and prosper. There’s so much to do right now — we have to secure the border, fight inflation and spending, restore America’s standing in the world, and the list goes on and on. I’m ready to hit the ground running and bring conservative values to Congress.”

Anderson is also supported by national figures like Speaker Mike Johnson, Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, and Senator Tom Cotton. Anderson also announced an endorsement from Iowa Congressman Zach Nunn earlier this month.

According to Federal Elections Commission filings, Anderson raised over $300,000 in the last quarter of 2023.

VA-07 is again shaping up to be a hotly contested race this year. Incumbent Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger is not seeking re-election after choosing to pursue the Virginia Governor’s mansion in 2025. Spanberger beat Republican Yesli Vega in 2022 with 52.2% of the vote to Vega’s 47.6%. The Cook Political Report moved VA-07 from Likely Democrat to Lean Democrat last November after Spanberger announced she was not seeking re-election.
