Some of you may not like what I’m going to say here, but if you know me, you also know that I have no problem being honest in my views, even when it may draw a rebuke from my friends.
Just who I am…
For those of you who have not been elected to the Virginia General Assembly, this is when life gets hard, particularly when controversial measures are being considered like Medicaid expansion.
I wish we weren’t going down this path in Virginia, but elections matter folks as you can see from my previous post on the utterly awful record of the far-left candidates Virginia put in the General Assembly.
Because people put these socialist ideologues in office (both Democrats who voted for them and Republicans who stayed home), Medicaid expansion may be a fait accompli in large measure because of the increased number of liberals now in the General Assembly who will vote for more social welfare.
Some people are mad at Republicans for letting this happen. You may want to hold your fire.
Why? Because if we — Republicans — had come out in the numbers the Democrats did in 2017, we wouldn’t be facing this.
To be sure, the Democrats, motivated by hatred for our President, showed up closer to numbers you see in a Presidential election. They were venting their anger.
But Republicans need to understand that, while our candidates may not be perfect, I sure wasn’t, we are far superior to the alternative, and you’re seeing that now.
So, before you unload on the new Speaker — who I think is a remarkably good man — and others you may disagree with on this move, remember that when you go from a significant GOP majority to a razor thin one, this is what happens.
Elections have consequences.
