LINGAMFELTER: Immoral Savagery Is No Path To Power

I’ve been thinking…

Virginia House of Democrats now say that the outrage in response to their bill that would permit the abortion of a child, right up to the moment of natural birth, is an “orchestrated attack” or an “ambush” against them.

Rubbish. It is a pellucid moment—one that can’t be shrugged off—exposing an important fact: Their lust for power at any cost.

What they want you to now believe is this story has been “taken out of context”. More rubbish.

Here are the facts, Virginia. First, the sub-committee chairman, Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah), my friend and an honest and fair man, asked very clear questions of Delegate Kathy Tran (D- Fairfax). Under that questioning she was equally clear about the intent of her bill. Here is the text of that exchange.

“Where it’s obvious that a woman is about to give birth…she has physical signs that she is about to give birth, would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion if she was so certified? If she’s dilating?” Gilbert asked.

Tran responded: “Mr. Chairman, that would be a decision that the doctor, the physician and the woman would make at that point.”

“I understand that,” Gilbert said. “I’m asking if your bill allows that.”

Tran said: “My bill would allow that, yes.”

Then it gets worse, far so, revealing the pernicious—indeed barbaric—level the Democrat Governor will stoop to in order to appease abortion advocates. Defending the Tran bill, he said this on WTOP radio yesterday in response to a question about a baby that survives a late term abortion.

“So, in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired,” Northam said. “And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

A “discussion”, mind you, about whether to end that child’s life. A live child, born, living. I think that the taking of the life of an innocent person who has been brought into this world is called murder.

You would then think that Democrats—seeing the now national outrage that has sprung from the Tran bill and Northam’s shameful defense of it—would do somewhat of a retreat from the controversy? That’s not the case. The Democrat House Minority Leader, Delegate Eileen Filler-Corn (D-Fairfax) made this clarifying comment.

“When asked if Democrats would pursue legislation similar to Tran’s if they take control of the House next year, Filler-Corn said that ‘there’s a lot of support for this type of legislation.’ ”

Oh really?

Democrats in doubling down on this have claimed all of it is taken out of context. There is nothing, not a word of any of this that has been taken “out of context” and the feeble efforts to hide the barbaric nature of what the Democrats find civilized—the killing of a child up to, and if need be, after birth—defies any excuse they offer. That would include their standard assertions that this is merely about “healthcare” or “controlling bodies” or “choice”. What they are proposing is none of that.

Delegate Tran’s legislation—with the oblivious support of the Governor and the Democrat minority leader—is simply repugnant. This is the vilest bill I have seen filed in the General Assembly in my memory. And the leadership of the Democrat party continues to support it even after the revulsion if has caused among people of good conscience, including independents and some Democrats who find late term abortions abhorrent. Want proof of that?

Delegate Dawn Adams (D-Richmond) is beating a hasty retreat having sent an email to her constituents last night claiming she “did not exercise due diligence” before co-sponsoring the abortion legislation.” Bologna. She knew full well what she was doing, even with a simple reading of the bill summary. She now fears for her hide since she won in a very close election over a solid Republican last year. Now she will face a challenge this year fearing that “suburban moms”, even those who are unhappy with President Trump, will turn from her once they realize that their delegate supports infanticide.

So too will the suburban women in the districts of the co-patrons of the “death bill”. Dawn M. Adams, Hala S. Ayala, Jennifer Carroll Foy, Lee J. Carter, Wendy W. Gooditis, Elizabeth R. Guzman, Patrick A. Hope, Jerrauld C. “Jay” Jones, Kaye Kory, Paul E. Krizek, Mark H. Levine, Alfonso H. Lopez, Delores L. McQuinn, Sam Rasoul, David A. Reid, Debra H. Rodman, Marcus B. Simon, Cheryl B. Turpin, Roslyn C. Tyler, Schuyler T. VanValkenburg who all signed onto this abomination. All of them deserve to be turned out of office, every single one of them.

Here’s the bottom line. You now see the Democrat Party for what it has become. They are so invested in attaining power that they have become divested of any sense or morality. When anyone is willing to sacrifice innocent human life for personal and political gain, they exhibit an immoral savagery only a barbarian could admire.

Virginians, these Democrats are out of step with the vast majority of us, out of touch with basic moral precepts, and deserve forthwith to be out of office. Devote yourself to that proposition. Do not forget the view you’ve had into the twisted far-left minds of people unworthy of elected office.
