Pro-Life Group’s Headquarters Set Ablaze in Violent Attack

An unknown perpetrator, or perpetrators, targeted the nerve center of a pro-life organization in Madison, Wisconsin early on Sunday morning. They attacked the building with a molotov cocktail and ignited a separate fire when it failed to explode.

Before leaving, they spray-painted an ominous message on the side of the building.

It read in part, “If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either.”

The threatening graffiti included an anarchist symbol and an anti-police rallying cry.

Fox News reports:

Local reporters from outlets including WISC-TV, the Wisconsin State Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said they visited the office for Wisconsin Family Action on Sunday and shared photos and videos of the apparent arson attack. A shattered window had since been boarded up, and images showed fire damaged furniture and burned books littering the floor of the office.

Wisconsin Family Action President Julaine K. Appling told News 3 Now that someone tossed a Molotov cocktail into her office around 6 a.m. and she was unaware of who is behind the attack.

No one was inside the building at the time of the attack.

In recent days, Wisconsin Family Action has condemned the leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion that, if published, would overturn Roe v. Wade.

The Madison Police Department has begun an investigation with the Madison Fire Department and federal law enforcement.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) condemned the attack in a statement shared on Twitter.

Madison.com has more on the reaction from local politicians:

Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said she understands that people are afraid and angry in the wake of the leaked Supreme Court draft but that resorting to violence isn’t an acceptable response.

A statement from the mayor’s office added, “Madison believes strongly in the right to free speech, but it must be exercised nonviolently by all sides in this increasingly contentious debate.”
