Sadtler: Democrat Fairfax Extreme Views On Firearms Alienate Virginians

As you may have heard, Justin Fairfax, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, came out in favor of gun confiscation. Let’s be clear: he called for taking guns away from people who already own them.

His call to get guns “out of civilian hands” speaks for itself. He doesn’t mean guns in store display cases. He means guns currently in your safe at home.

Justin Fairfax is as extreme as any anti-gun candidate in Virginia’s history to ever run statewide on a major party ticket. In backing confiscation, Fairfax has crossed a line to support one of the most extreme positions possible.

In doing so, Fairfax has alienated Virginia’s two million gun owners who value their rights, their personal safety, and our outdoor traditions of hunting and sport shooting.

Virginia gun owners do not support Fairfax’s call for confiscation or a “gun insurance” mandate, which would burden every law-abiding gun owner and force them to buy government-mandated insurance as a condition of gun ownership, under the threat of stiff fines or losing gun rights.

This is constitutionally unacceptable. Government cannot charge people for expressing their opinion, for worshiping, or for voting. Why should owning a rifle or handgun – another constitutional right – be any different?

Virginians have a better choice for Lt. Governor. Jill Vogel has consistently supported our Second Amendment rights in Virginia’s Senate. We have endorsed Vogel because she will defend our rights and stand against Fairfax’s infringements, such as insurance mandates and his staggeringly extreme call for gun confiscation.

Bob Sadtler serves as Chairman of VCDL-PAC and is one of the Commonwealths leading advocates for the Second Amendment. Bob has spent years helping law-abiding gun owners voice their opinion and speak out in favor of constitutional rights.
