Texas Congressman Sees Border Security Ally In VA-07 Candidate Anderson

Amid Washington’s lack of action on the issue of border security, current representatives in Congress are already looking towards November as an opportunity to fortify their ranks next year in an effort to stop the invasion on America’s southern border. Pete Sessions, Congressman for Texas’ 17th district, announced Wednesday an endorsement of Derrick Anderson, Republican candidate for Virginia’s 7th congressional district, ahead of the state’s June primary. Anderson’s campaign shared the following remarks from Sessions with American Liberty News :
“Texas is being overrun because of the open borders policy of the Biden Administration. We need more people in Washington who understand this crisis. Derrick Anderson is one of those people — he’s a Special Forces Green Beret who knows we need to get tough on the border. Please support Derrick Anderson in Virginia’s 7th District.”
Sharing the endorsement, Anderson noted:
“Congressman Sessions has been fighting to stop the border crisis for years and I appreciate his support. I served in the military to protect this country, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do in Congress. It’s time to get tough on the border and start taking on the myriad of problems Biden’s border policies have caused.”
Anderson is also supported by national figures like Speaker Mike Johnson, Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, and Senator Tom Cotton. His campaign has also announced endorsements from Iowa Congressman Zach Nunn and Virginia Congresswoman Jenn Kiggans this month. According to Federal Elections Commission filings, Anderson raised over $300,000 in the last quarter of 2023, and has over $460,000 cash on hand. VA-07 is again shaping up to be a hotly contested race this year. Incumbent Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger is not seeking re-election after choosing to pursue the Virginia Governor’s mansion in 2025. Spanberger beat Republican Yesli Vega in 2022 with 52.2% of the vote to Vega’s 47.6%. The Cook Political Report moved VA-07 from Likely Democrat to Lean Democrat last November after Spanberger announced she was not seeking re-election.
