Virginia Police Department Loses First Officer in the Line of Duty

Virginia leaders are honoring the loss of Covington Police Officer Caleb Ogilvie.

Ogilvie, 35, died from injuries sustained in a shootout with a suspect at a gas station earlier this week.

According to authorities, Ogilvie was responding to a domestic disturbance.

His shooting death is the department’s first. The officer’s loss has hit Covington, a town of five and a half thousand, particularly hard.

WDBJ has more on the reaction coming in across the state:

A fund to support Ogilvie’s family has been set up through “Fund the First” and online donations can be made here.

Governor Glenn Youngkin will order Commonwealth flags to be flown at half staff on the day of Ogilvie’s funeral when that is scheduled.
