Democrats have loudly complained about President Donald Trump’s landmark legislation, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. According to them, it is the ruination of America.
State Senator Jennifer Wexton, who is floating in a sea of under-performing Democratic challengers who are failing to demonstrate any significant opposition to incumbent Republican Barbara Comstock, is the latest progressive who is foaming at the mouth in their vehement opposition to the Republican-led legislation. Nevertheless, Wexton has shown her constituents, and indeed the public at-large, why she is adamantly against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – she has no idea what is it is, nor what it does.
A recent email was sent to potential voters from her campaign…and it’s a doozy.
Well, Mrs. Wexton, welcome to Tax Law 101.
Tax returns filed today will be filed under the old code, considering those are 2017 taxes, before the Tax Cut and Jobs Act was signed into law. The first returns to be filed under the new law, those with decreased personal tax rates and twice the standard deduction, will not be filed until at least January 2019.
If one is going to oppose an idea or complain about the results of a piece of legislation, one should actually know what it does.
But wait, there’s more…
What about the impact that Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will have on Virginia’s Tenth Congressional District, Wexton cries. Of course, it must mean that only the Wall Street fat-cat, bourgeois, jet-set, nouveau riche, plutocratic, privileged, crème de la corporate types only reap the benefits, right?
According to Wexton’s hometown newspaper, the Loudoun Times-Mirror, they say, “Loudoun County homeowners are expected to benefit from the new tax plan out of Washington, according to the county’s lobbying firm.”
The report also stated, “The Ferguson Group, a bipartisan government relations consulting firm, analyzed the potential impacts to Loudoun residents based on several scenarios and came back with estimates as to how the new law affects a range of people living in Loudoun County. The analysis did not include the impact on business owners or businesses.”
“With the high cost of living in northern Virginia, I was pleased to learn that most Loudouner’s should see a reduction in their federal taxes,” said Loudoun County Supervisor Tony Buffington (R-Blue Ridge).
Considering hundreds of American companies have raised their wages for workers, given out holiday bonuses, increased benefits, given employees stock options, and have hired more and more people, Wexton’s claims in her inaccurate, oblivious email are unquestionably laughable.
The only response to such a thick-headed commentary is what RNC spokesman Garren Shipley sent out via a post by the GOP with an homage to Adam Sandler in “Billy Madison.”
“Senator Wexton, what you just emailed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent fundraising ask were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the 10th District is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.”
