Winsome Sears Has Perfect Retort After GOP Delegate Barred From Black Caucus

Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears has several ideas for the name of a new caucus that Del. Aijalon Cordoza (R-Hampton), the only Black Republican in the Virginia House, could establish after the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus barred him from joining.

The Daily Wire reports:

We’re trying to start a new caucus. Name suggestions? The You’re Not Black Enough Caucus, The No More Division Caucus, The Welcome Caucus, The Let’s Do Away With Caucuses Caucus, The FRIEND Caucus #Virginia #inclusion #everforward,” Sears tweeted.

Sears’ musings continued in a follow-up tweet.

In theory, the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus is open to African Americans of all stripes. In reality, it’s become apparent that you shouldn’t waste your time applying unless you’re a card-carrying liberal.

Cordoza had hoped to join so that different Black voices could be heard respectfully. He compared his subsequent rejection to being spit on and expressed profound disappointment that the caucus doesn’t value true diversity.

Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) ran into a similar situation when he was elected to the United States Congress in 2020 — after reaching out to the Congressional Black Caucus on several occasions, it became apparent that he was not going to be invited to join.

Cordoza beat an entrenched Democratic incumbent in a district with a significant minority population last November, as part of the GOP’s gains across Virginia.
