Woke Mob Turns On Winsome After Misgendering Incident

Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle Sears gives her keynote speech at a Forsyth County Republican Party fundraising event on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Legacy Stables and Events in Winston-Salem, N.C. Allison Lee Isley Journal

Lt. Governor Winsome Sears has found herself on the receiving end of the woke mob’s rage after she misgendered State Senator Danica Roem in the Senate Chamber Monday.

Roem, a first-term Senator who previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates, is transgender. After Sears addressed her as  “sir” when answering a question from Roem.

The Progress-Index reported:

It happened during discussion on House Bill 592, when Roem was asking Earle-Sears questions about the measure. In response to one of those questions, Earle-Sears replied, “Yes, sir.” Roem then put down her microphone and walked out of the chamber.

Following the second recess requested by Democrats, Earle-Sears said there “was no intent to offend” when she made the remark, claiming that she had misspoken before.

Still, progressive groups were outraged on Roem’s behalf.

The Pink News reported:

In a press release published by Blue Virginia, advocacy organization Progress Virginia described Roem as “gracious in the face of the lieutenant governor’s disrespect” and denounced the fact she had to “deal with that nonsense in her workplace.”

LaTwyla Mathias, the executive director of Progress Virginia, said: “We support senator Roem and every other LGBTQ+ community member who has to face this kind of unprofessional conduct from people in power.

“Winsome Sears’ tired old bigotry is a relic of a previous age, and we applaud senator Roem and other progressive voices in the general assembly for their continued work to move our commonwealth forward.”

Of course, Sears herself is also a trailblazer in the Senate chamber, being the first Black Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Calling her a bigot is quite a bold statement by Progress Virginia.

Despite storming out of the chamber, Roem herself does not appear to have made a statement about the incident.
