Virginia High School Teacher Ignites Firestorm With Pro-Hamas Classroom Lessons

A Hamas-supporting educator in Arlington County, Virginia is spreading these views in her English class.

Shayma Al-Hanooti reportedly worked the Israel-Palestine conflict into her assignments.

Emails obtained via public records request highlight Arlington Public Schools high school English teacher Shayma Al-Hanooti inserting the Israel-Palestine conflict into many aspects of classroom teaching ….An assignment due on January 25 was on the documentary “Born in Gaza,” – a documentary with a clear political perspective

A biased political perspective inappropriate for an English class.

An English teacher in Virginia who forced her students to complete assignments laced with anti-Israel rhetoric …..gave her students politically charged assignments such as sorting out “logical fallacies” in how Israelis use the “Holocaust to victimize themselves

Or:

Perhaps the most jarring assignment Al-Hanooti gave instructed her IB English students to conduct an “analysis of rhetorical appeal and logical fallacies” related to the “South Africa vs. Israel” court case at the Hague in which Cape Town accused the Jewish state of committing genocide.

So Accuracy in Media is using its far-reaching activist network to contact Arlington Public Schools and confront them about their employment of Shayma Al-Hanooti. Join us by visiting this page.

Al-Hanooti’s history does not lend her any favors.

Her father was “Sheikh Mohammad Al-Hanooti. From 1995 to 1999, Sheikh Mohammad Al-Hanooti served as imam at Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church. The mosque has ties to a number of al Qaeda terrorists, including two of the 9/11 hijackers and Anwar al-Awlaki.

That’s not her fault. But as an adult, her attitudes are her own fault. As is what she teaches the children in her care. Nor is this her fault:

Al-Hanooti’s father was additionally named an “un-indicted co-conspirator” in the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing plot and the 2008 Holy Land Foundation Hamas Financing Trial, per the Center for Security Policy.

The former imam is also accused of helping raise $6 million for groups with ties to Hamas, according to an FBI memo.

But her actions do matter. Her influence goes beyond her classroom, as she is also trying to lecture the whole school:

About 11 days after the Oct. 7, 2023 massacre perpetrated by Hamas, Al-Hanooti blasted out an email to all of the staff at the high school characterizing Israel’s response as a “genocide of over 1 million Palestinians unfolding before our eyes.”
