Pelosi And House Democrats Must Battle Economic Reality For 2018 Midterms

Democrats have said they will be “running” on the economy this midterm cycle and how the Republican-led tax overhaul was probably the worst thing to happen to America since the internal combustion engine was invented. Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-12) signaled at a Tuesday press conference that her opposition party, if they gain control of Congress this November, will be rolling back the Trump tax cuts.

In a report from Fox News, Pelosi was asked by a reporter at a breakfast to respond to a Republican ad that says of the House leader, “you would like to institute a single-payer health care program and cancel – [raise] taxes, I think they mean, roll back the tax cuts they passed this year.”

“Well, the second part there is accurate,” Pelosi snickered in her response. She added, “I do think we should revisit the tax legislation in…a bipartisan transparent way.”

Yes, because “crumbs,” right?

Matt Gorman, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) hopped on the outlandish Pelosi comment and tweeted, “I promise you that will be in almost every GOP ad this fall.”

In response, Pelosi’s spokesman Drew Hammill told The Washington Post that, “Republicans are desperate to misrepresent any effort to roll back their debt-exploding tax giveaways for big corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent as ‘raising taxes’ on middle class families.”

Though, it is not a misrepresentation at all. After all, since January, Pelosi has repeatedly dismissed the bonuses employers were giving to workers as crumbs, despite the fact some received up to $2,000. She continuously says that the tax cuts are ruinously vulgar, despite the fact that they allowed companies to go on a hiring spree that has resulted in 3.8 percent unemployment – the lowest number since the the last year of the Nixon Administration.

The U.S. is on track to near five percent growth by the end of the year, jobless claims are exceedingly low, African-American unemployment numbers are the lowest on record, and more corporations are repatriating money back to the U.S. as the corporate tax rate was cut from 35 to 21 percent.

Therefore, the Democrats must admit that if they are running on the economy in 2018, if they win, the American people will be worse off, citizens will have money taken out of their pockets, and economic stagnation will result in the only thing growing in the U.S. is the line waiting for the return of the McDonald’s “Dollar menu.”

Pelosi claims that she will run for the position of speaker if the Democrats take back the House in November. However, her advance may be halted, not from Republicans, but from her own party faithful.

In March, some House Democrats moved on a preemptive strike against the California progressive, calling for her to step down from a leadership position after the party failed to win a series of special elections in 2017. Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan (OH-13) failed to unseat her in a leadership challenge after the 2016 elections, but did manage to secure 63 votes from his fellow lawmakers.

“It’s important that it not be five white guys at the table,” said Pelosi, referencing President Trump and the other three congressional leaders. “I have no intention of walking away from that table.”

Nevertheless, Pelosi’s message has been increasingly harder to make out after she and other congressional Democrats recently met with members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to discuss the “GOP Tax Scam.”

According to The American Mirror, this is what the House Minority Leader had to say:

“Now this is, we are here, you heard after they did their tax scam…83 percent of the benefits of the tax scam will go to the top 1 percent in our country…And a big chuck of that, uh milli-, uh billi-, uh a trillion and a half dollars will go to corporate America, but don’t worry they are going to create jobs, raise wages, give bonuses and the rest,” Pelosi muttered.

Pelosi alleged incorrectly that those things “didn’t happen,” despite the aforementioned countless reports of businesses doling out raises, bonuses, and creating thousands of jobs.

So, if the Democrats are going to attempt to take back the House in November, they will have to battle against reality.
