Virginia Honors Fallen Hero From Trump Rally Tragedy

A Hero Remembered

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Corey Comperatore, 50, lost his life while shielding his family during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Comperatore, a former volunteer fire chief, is remembered for his bravery and sacrifice.

Governor Youngkin’s Tribute

In recognition of Comperatore’s heroism, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Monday. Youngkin expressed his condolences and solidarity with the people of Pennsylvania, highlighting Comperatore’s selfless actions.

“Virginia stands in solidarity with Pennsylvania, especially with the two rallygoers who survived the shooting but remain critically injured,” Youngkin stated. “Comperatore’s bravery is a testament to the strength and courage of our communities.”

Virginia U.S. Senator Tim Kaine said he was distraught over the tragedy at President Trump’s rally and said he was relieved Trump is safe.

U.S. Senator Mark Warner said there is no place for political violence in a democracy and that he is praying for all those at the Pennsylvania rally.

On Monday, the RNC convention kicked off in Milwaukee.

The Incident

During the rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds, the assailant attempted to shoot former President Trump. Trump, who turned to the right a fraction of a second before the first shot, was grazed by a round. Comperatore unfortunately paid the ultimate price.

Comperatore’s Legacy

Comperatore’s actions have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. As a former volunteer fire chief, he dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. His bravery in the face of danger is an inspiration to us all, and he will be remembered as a true hero.
