In a bold move, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he has revoked former President Joe Biden’s security clearances, citing a lack of necessity for Biden to have continued access to classified information. Trump made the announcement shortly after referring to a report that raised concerns about Biden’s mental health, which, according to Trump, made him unfit for access to sensitive national security information.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information,” Trump wrote in the post. “Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings.”
Trump’s decision to revoke Biden’s security clearances comes in response to actions taken by the Biden administration in 2021, when President Biden stopped Trump from receiving briefings and access to classified intelligence after leaving office. Trump pointed out that this move by Biden had set a precedent, and he saw no reason to allow Biden to have continued access to such information after leaving office.
Trump’s post also referenced the findings of a report from Special Counsel Robert Hur, which examined Biden’s handling of classified documents and included assessments of Biden’s mental faculties. While Hur concluded that Biden would not face charges over his handling of classified materials, Trump seized upon the findings about Biden’s memory and mental clarity. Hur’s report revealed concerning details about Biden’s mental state, confirming that Biden’s memory had deteriorated over time.
“Hur Report revealed that Biden suffers from ‘poor memory’ and, even in his ‘prime,’ could not be trusted with sensitive information,” Trump said. “I will always protect our National Security — JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The Special Counsel’s February 2024 report described how Biden’s memory had noticeably deteriorated over time, citing incidents where he failed to remember key events or details, including the loss of his son, Beau Biden. The report also highlighted Biden’s inability to recall specific details from his time as vice president.
The revocation of security clearances has also sparked a wave of reactions from both political sides. Critics of Trump’s move argue that it is politically motivated. Others, however, support Trump’s decision, claiming that national security should be prioritized above all else and that former presidents — especially those in obvious cognitive decline — should not have ongoing access to sensitive intelligence unless absolutely necessary.
The coverup of Joe Biden’s mental deterioration was one of the biggest scandals in modern American history, as he began exhibiting signs during the 2020 election, but Democrats and mainstream media outlets insisted that he had a “speech impediment.” His condition continued to worsen, but the media and members of his staff and administration continued to cover for him until the first debate of the 2024 election cycle, when his decline could no longer be concealed.
In the aftermath of the 2024 election, it’s become increasingly clear that Joe Biden wasn’t actually functioning as a president during his administration, giving Trump all the more reason to revoke his security clearances and withhold sensitive, highly classified information.
