Former Fox News host and current SiriusXM podcaster Megyn Kelly called out MSNBC host Joy Reid for her wildly inaccurate warnings about President-elect Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Kelly, known for her outspoken opinions on political matters, suggested that Reid’s increasingly provocative rhetoric could soon lead to her ousting from the network.
Reid, who is known for her far left point of view, stirred up significant backlash last week after claiming that Trump would target minorities who have legal status in the United States for deportation. In a comment that quickly went viral, Reid suggested that Trump would use a “meat-axe approach” to deport legal immigrants, including those with green cards, based purely on their racial or ethnic background.
On her Friday evening broadcast, Reid claimed that Trump’s second term would not stop at deporting illegal immigrants but would also extend to “de-naturalization,” a process that could strip American citizens of their status. “Don’t think because you have a green card and came through the ‘right way’ — if you’re brown, you may not stick around,” Reid said.
Many took issue with her sweeping generalization and the alarmist tone of her remarks, which painted Trump’s immigration policies in a particularly harsh and racially charged light with no proof to substantiate her allegations.
While Trump’s administration has pushed for aggressive deportations of illegal immigrants, there is little evidence to suggest that it would go as far as Reid’s predictions. Trump has expressed intent to abolish birthright citizenship — a massive catalyst for illegal immigration — but has said nothing about retroactively rescinding citizenship for those who already benefitted from it.
Reid also targeted Latino voters, particularly Latino men who supported Trump, saying they would “own” the consequences of his policies. This echoed earlier criticisms where she singled out certain groups, such as white women and Latino men, for their support of Trump, accusing them of betraying minority communities.
“She wants a race riot. That’s really what you take away listening to Joy Reid,” Kelly said. “She actually does want some sort of rioting in the streets, some sort of race revolt.” Kelly added that Reid’s remarks were dangerous and could have serious consequences for MSNBC’s reputation.
In a follow-up, Kelly said that Reid’s comments were so extreme that it was only a matter of time before the network would be forced to sever ties with her. “It’s a tick-tock situation until her ass is fired,” Kelly remarked. “The network is allowing her to spew this racist hate on their channel.”
