New data shared by the Virginia Public Access Project has revealed that over half a million Virginians have already cast ballots in this year’s midterm election.
596,176 ballots have been cast statewide as of October 30th. 398,235 of those ballots have been cast early in person and 197,941 have been cast by mail.
During the last midterm year of 2018, Virginians cast 344,594 votes during the entire early voting period.
The Congressional district where the most ballots have been cast so far is VA-01, with a total of 74,440.
The ballot totals in Virginia’s most competitive Congressional seats are as follows:
VA – 02: 64,338
VA – 07: 57,820
VA – 10: 59,287
The partisan breakdown of ballots cast is not known as Virginia does not have voter registration by party.
This past Saturday was the first Saturday when voters could go and cast ballots early, and a number of candidates cast their own votes over the weekend.
Karina Lipsman, the Republican nominee in VA-08 shared in a video posted on Twitter that it was a “surreal moment” voting for herself, and also thanked her campaign staff and volunteers for all of their support during her run.

Election Day is next Tuesday, November 8th, and the last day to vote early in-person is this coming Saturday, November 5th.
