Looking ahead into 2025, Virginia’s Republicans will be picking a gubernatorial nominee who they believe will be their best hope to maintain control of the Governor’s mansion after Glenn Youngkin’s single term.
New polling released this week shows who Republican primary voters in the Commonwealth may be inclined to pick next year.
Virginia’s two other statewide elected Republicans – Lt. Governor Winsome Sears and Attorney General Jason Miyares – were put head to head in a poll conducted by Cygnal – an “award-winning international polling, public opinion, and predictive analytics firm.”

A summary of the poll released by FiveThirtyEight showed Sears up by nearly 30 points over Miyares. Sears is supported by 44% of likely GOP primary voters, with Miyares landing 16%. 41% of respondents said that they were undecided at the time of the poll being conducted.
Cygnal’s pollsters also noted that “Sears leads over Miyares with Trump Republicans (+36%) and Traditional Republicans (+17%).” This result may be a bit unexpected by members of Miyares’ camp. He was the first Virginia statewide Republican to endorse Trump after the former President’s Super Tuesday win earlier this month. Sears has still not endorsed Trump in his pursuit for the White House this year.
