Underperformer Don Beyer Still Trying To “Bump Off” Overperformer Barbara Comstock

Rep. Don Beyer, recently announced his re-election plans and the press coverage indicates that he had absolutely no legislative successes or agenda to promote and instead talked about targeting Rep. Barbara Comstock.

According to InsideNova, Beyer said, “She [Comstock]  is ‘the No. 1 target – we’re going to put everyone behind it,’ Beyer said of the effort to unseat Comstock, who succeeded U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf the same year Beyer followed Moran into office.”

Beyer, a failed candidate for Governor 20 years ago who nearly lost the 10th in that race by a 2 to 1 margin, warms the 8th District seat and holds parties in Alexandria and ventures into Arlington, and all but ignores the Fairfax part of his district.  His prognostications about the 10th District race are ironic considering since Beyer lost it badly when he ran for Governor against Jim Gilmore in 1997 — losing Virginia in a 55-42 rout.

In 2016, Beyer stressed how important it was for them to “bump off” Comstock that year, because it would get harder every year.

Classy, Don — bumping off the only female in the Virginia delegation — the chivalry of Democrats.

Despite those like Beyer trying to “bump off” Comstock who has been consistently targeted, she has demonstrated she is Lucy with the football when it comes to Democrats trying to score against her.

As Miles Coleman of Decision Desk HQ, who actually lives in the 10th District, wrote after the 2016 election:

“One of the Congressional incumbents who ran furthest ahead of their ticket was Rep. Barbara Comstock (R) of Virginia’s 10th Congressional district. Comstock was a state legislator who won this blue-trending seat after the very popular Frank Wolf (R) retired in 2014…Comstock overperformed the most in her old legislative district,  which is the dark red arm of the district in northern Fairfax County. Clinton carried all but one precinct there, but   all of them voted for Comstock. In fact, after she vacated her legislative seat, it flipped Democratic, but it looks    like Comstock is still popular with voters who know her best…As a resident of the district myself, I thought that, given the district’s lean, Hillary would need to carry the state by at least 5-6% for Comstock to lose. While I was right about the state margin, Clinton won Virginia by 5.3%, there was significantly more ticket-splitting than I expected in VA-10.”

Fact of the matter is, Democrats are in for a rather amazing surprise if they think VA-10 are easy pickings.  Comstock knows her home district better than any outsider.

Of note?  In September 1997, the Washington Post predicted that Beyer would win in Virginia by a full percentage point.  Oops.

So Is McAuliffe Going To Reschedule That Meeting With Law Enforcement?

Embattled Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ralph Northam really seems to enjoy skipping out on meetings.  Apparently, that means of doing business is catching on in the Governor’s Mansion, and Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespie’s challenge to Northam last night to fix the problem seems to be going unheeded.

The full transcript is as follows:

GILLESPIE: Ralph, you heard me mention the meeting that the governor cancelled with the Virginia Sheriffs’ and I was truly disappointed by that. They are a non-partisan organization They are on the front lines of trying to protect our safety of our commonwealth. I am proud to be endorsed by a majority of our sheriffs, including Ronnie Oakes, who I think is here this evening. But they should not be punished as an organization trying to stand up for the deputies and to make sure that we have proper compensation. They are on the front lines of many of the problems we have talked about here tonight, the opioid, and heroin and mental health epidemic. And I would like to ask you tonight if you will join me in having Governor McAuliffe, I’ll urge him but you can obviously get him to do it, to reschedule that meeting and to do that before November 7th, and listen to those sheriffs and find out what their needs are and what they are looking for in their annual meeting that they have scheduled on an annual basis, a routine meeting where they talk about their budget. Would you do that?

NORTHAM: Well I’m glad you asked the question, Ed, because I was going to respond to that earlier, but Paul wouldn’t allow the time, which I certainly understand. But I had absolutely nothing to do with the cancellation of that meeting. And I want to just let people out there know, I grew up on the Eastern Shore, my brother is an attorney, my father and grandfather both judges, I have always had a tremendous respect for law enforcement. I have always had great relationships with our sheriffs and deputies, with our state police, with our local law enforcement. And in 2011, Ed – I don’t know if you knew this because I realize you were up in Washington lobbying at that time – but I actually won the award for legislator of the year from the Virginia Sheriffs’ Department. And I was very proud of that. And that was because, as you might know, there are 140 legislators, I won the award, Ed, in 2011. So I have always been very supportive our sheriffs and deputies, I will continue to be. I have fought for pay raises over the years, and as I have said a couple of times tonight, a $1.4 billion hole in our budget is not a good way to support local law enforcement, sheriffs and our Virginia state police.

GILLESPIE: For whatever it’s worth Ralph, for the past – more than a decade have had a business in Old Town, Alexandria, and I left the firm that you are talking about more than a decade ago. But the fact is, you just made clear that law enforcement is not a priority for you. You’re not going to urge the governor to have that meeting. I will do it right now. Governor McAuliffe, please reschedule that meeting with the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association. Listen to their needs, find out what they need in terms of their budgets to meet the challenges that we face here in opioid, and heroin epidemic, and mental health as well. That is a priority for me and it is one of the reasons I’m so proud to have a majority of the sheriffs endorsing me in the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as the Police Benevolent Association and the Fraternal Order of Police because I have policies that will make Virginia safer, and I will have their back as our governor. And I’m proud to have their endorsement, I wish the governor wouldn’t engage in politics when it comes to people who are on the front lines of keeping us safe in our communities every day.

“McAuliffe’s office did not dispute Jones’ claim that the meeting was canceled due to political feuding…” (Richmond Times-Dispatch, 9/29/17)

Another meeting missed; another responsibility dodged; another poor ROI for Northam’s New York financiers….

At some point, the Democrats cut their losses and focus on Herring.  With just four weeks to go and the polls showing all three statewide races within the margin of error, the shock of a Republican sweep in 2017 would be violent and sharp to Democratic chances in the 2018 mid-terms.

Crowder Goes Undercover With Antifa

September 27th, 2017 — Antifa activists plan to assault conservatives at a counter-protest where Ben Schapiro plans to speak to the University of Utah.

…except they didn’t count on being infiltrated.  Nor did they count on the fact that local and state law enforcement had already infiltrated their operations.  But the press?

Give this video a watch.  Then give this a thought: if Antifa would rather be reduced to merely being “anti-fascist” but then declares anything with which they disagree to be “Nazism” — even Jewish conservatives such as Ben Schapiro — then what prevents the social acceptance of the identitarian Alt-Right as being “anti-communist” and declaring everything “socialism” to justify violence from the right?

Facts are, Antifa isn’t merely anti-fascist.  Nor is the Alt-Right merely anti-socialist.  What links the two together is (1) a fundamental commitment to violent or direct action, and (2) a common belief that the American form and process of government and our Constitution are well beyond repair.

What folks must and should understand is that there really is a moral equivalency between the two camps.  Both resort to violence or direct action to achieve their goals; both believe the Constitution is a fundamentally flawed document.

…and both should be vigorously opposed, not coddled by the American media.

Watch Gillespie Dropkick Northam In POWERFUL First Ad

Gillespie is up in the first true ad of the gubernatorial campaign with a powerful ad focusing on law and order — issues that ring true on immigration, Antifa, and gang violence where Northam campaign is not only weak, but Northam’s base is divided six ways to Sunday.

“The first job of a governor is to ensure public safety; keeping communities, schools, businesses and public gathering places safe. Ralph Northam’s policy in favor of sanctuary cities in our Commonwealth will not make Virginians safer,” said campaign manager Chris Leavitt. “Ed is proud to be the son of an immigrant, and knows we can both welcome legal immigrants and enforce our laws at the same time. As governor, Ed will stand with our law enforcement and first responders, protect Virginia from those who wish to do us harm, ensure that sanctuary cities that are a safe haven for violent criminals here illegally are never allowed in the Commonwealth, and combat violent gangs like MS-13 that The Washington Post recently reported as seeing a ‘resurgence’ in the state. Ed included a ban on sanctuary cities in his detailed plan to combat gangs.”

That sure as hell beats statues, transgenders, and pipelines.
