Virginia Shooting During Illegal Gun Sale Leaves 3 Dead

Multiple people are dead after a shootout in Spotsylvania, Virginia.

Four suspects, including three juveniles, have been arrested in connection with a Tuesday night shooting that left three people dead,

The violence stemmed from an “illegal gun sale/robbery” gone wrong, the sheriff’s office said.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies received information at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday about a shooting in Spotsylvania, Virginia — a suburb about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C.

When deputies arrived, they found multiple people who were shot, according to a news release.

Jeremiah Upson, 18, was charged with the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, malicious wounding and unlawful assembly with a firearm or weapon, according to jail records. The three juveniles, two of whom are 16 and one 17 years old, face the same charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

One of the 16-year-old suspects was shot during the incident and is being treated at a local hospital. Mary Washington Healthcare confirmed to Fox News Tuesday that it was treating one patient who was in fair condition.

Upson and two of the other suspects are being held without bond, and the fourth will be incarcerated upon release from the hospital, police said.

Two men were seen in the area of the shooting carrying guns shortly before the incident unfolded, according to video obtained by WTTG, but the sheriff’s office is not connecting them to the shooting at this time.

“This is an active and fluid investigation,” according to SCSO officials. “No suspect(s) have been apprehended at this time … We ask the public to please stay clear of the area.”

Fredericksburg City Public Schools opened on a two-hour delay on Wednesday due to the “profound impact this incident has had on members of our school community,” the district said on X.
