Sources on background have indicated that Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) and Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) are both the targets of a group known as “Justice Democrats” — a hyper-progressive affiliated organization looking to run candidates that reflect the values of more extreme left-wing candidates such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Current targets for recruitment against Connolly are Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (HD-31) and Delegate Hala Ayala (HD-51), both of whom are locked in contests against respective Republican challengers D.J. Jordan and Rich Anderson.
Naturally, both Ayala and Guzman are heavily funded by outside money, mostly in an effort to keep nominally Republican-leaning seats out of the hands of the GOP in a closely contested lower chamber in the Virginia General Assembly.
Yet the move indicates that not only both candidates are mismatches for their state districts, but that demographically — even if the Democrats take control of the House — neither Guzman nor Alaya can be retained by leadership.
All the more reason to throw them at Connolly, who along with Beyer and Wexton have both been forced into demanding impeachment hearings against President Trump by their progressive wing.
