Going on a while now, there is a presumed bias from the media against those of a conservative kind. Well, now those presumptions have been revealed to be hard evidence after all as a former Democrat on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) has admitted there is a bias against Republican-based and conservative news outlets.
Ann Ravel, who was nominated by President Barack Obama to chair the FEC in 2013, was one of the three Democrats apart from the three Republicans that make up the “independent” regulatory agency that administers and enforces campaign finance law. Until her 2017 departure, she repeatedly rejected allegations that the commission she headed has an anti-GOP bias.
However, before she left the commission, she told the New York Times in 2015 that the FEC is, “worse than dysfunctional.” Though, dysfunctional is correct term to use as Ravel, now a lecturer at the University of California Berkeley Law School, told an alumni magazine that the FEC has taken cases biased against the Republicans.
Reporter Coby McDonald: Where do the cases that come before the FEC come from? Is there any possibility that they could be in some way biased against Republicans?
Ravel: Absolutely. The cases have come primarily from watchdog groups, and most of those groups are on the liberal side.
According to the Washington Examiner, during one period when Ravel was on the FEC, the complaints against Republicans were about three for every one against Democrats. As chairwoman of the commission, she frequently jabbed conservative websites like the news aggregate Drudge Report, as well as investigated notable GOP-aligned news personalities like Sean Hannity.
It became such an issue that former Chairman Lee Goodman warned in an interview with Secrets that the Democrats were trying to silence conservative media outlets.
While the Republicans on the FEC put a stop to those efforts, Ravel has conjured up a conspiracy theory-like cause. She has claimed, without any evidence whatsoever, that a “pact” was made long ago by the GOP members to vote against democrats.
