Middlesex County Sheriff David Bushey became the 64th sheriff to endorse Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie today, sending further shockwaves into an already troubled and moribund Ralph Northam campaign effort.
From the press release:
“I am honored to have the support of Sheriff Bushey and a majority of Virginia’s sheriffs, and I am grateful for our law enforcement officers who sacrifice each day to keep us safe,” Gillespie said. “As governor, I’ll work with all of our dedicated public servants to make our Commonwealth safer for all Virginians.”
Sheriff Bushey said of the endorsement, “I believe it to be my duty as a law enforcement officer, and a Virginian, to support the candidate who I know will keep our Commonwealth safe. The contrast between Ed Gillespie and Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam has never been more clear. Ed Gillespie has put forward detailed policy proposals to eradicate gang violence, improve cybersecurity, ban sanctuary cities, and combat the opioid and heroin epidemic. Ed Gillespie is the only candidate who will keep Virginians safe.”
Meanwhile, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce endorsement is expected either today or tomorrow after a dismal performance by the Democratic lieutenant governor before a packed house.
