“New California is a new state in development exercising it’s Constitutional Right to form from the State of California,” is stated in the newest Declaration of Independence to be crafted within the U.S. In its bid to break off not from the country, but from the Golden State, claiming their current situation is “ungovernable,” the solution of New California is to secede from the wealthy, coastal urban areas of California and build a state with rural counties.
“The current state of California has become governed by a tyranny,” said by founder and vice chairman of the movement Robert Paul Preston, via a published document online.
“After years of over taxation, regulation, and mono-party politics the State of California and many of it’s 58 Counties have become ungovernable,” citing defunct education, healthcare, infrastructure, law enforcement, and other, “decline[s] in essential basic services.”
In its Declaration, the mission, “is to bring about the conditions to initiate New California Statehood bringing about civic betterment and social improvements.”

Unlike previous talks of West Coast secession, Preston says they want, “to do things by the book.” They want to mirror how West Virginia was formed after it broke away from Virginia on the heels on the Civil War by beings Article 4, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution into play.
According to the U.S. Constitution:
“The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules of Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State.”
In a report from USA Today, currently, the secession group is stacked with state committees and a council of county representatives set to fully engage the state legislature with the move in, “10 to 18 months.”
Nevertheless, the formation of a 51st state is a longshot.
